« Israel rises above the angels through receiving the Torah — this treasured and hidden gift, which was given neither to the angels nor to any other creature, but to us alone. » (Likutey Halakhot, Rabbi Nathan of Breslov)
Israel’s greatness lies not merely in an inherited birthright, but in the active choice to receive and live by the Torah. Angels, though spiritually exalted, do not have this possibility: they cannot choose; they obey by nature. Human beings, however, possess free will.
Thus, our true superiority over the angels does not stem from a fixed status, but from the ability to say “yes” to the Divine call in the very midst of this imperfect world. Each time a Jewish person consciously chooses to fulfill the will of Hashem — sometimes at the cost of deep inner effort — they reveal the profound reason the Torah was entrusted to them: so that the light of Infinity might shine within the boundaries of the finite world.
